Lessons: When you sign up for in-person lessons you also accept the possibility of a few virtual lessons in semi-emergency situations (either weather conditions or teacher/student illness). There is no tuition refund for refusal of these virtual lessons.
At the studio: Arrive on time and sanitize your hands. Trimmed nails are plus for learning to play well.
Practicing: Practicing is learning through experience. Students should practice at least four times between the lessons in order to learn the new music given in class. Instructor will be offering advice on efficient, easy and fun practice. If you skipped some practices don’t skip the lesson, the instructor is here to guide you and help you reach your goals. Ask questions if not sure what to do!
Success: Enjoyment and success in learning the piano come from regular lessons and regular practice. I work to bring the best possible results for each student. Skipping lessons sabotage your success!!
Materials: Students buy the required materials for the lessons (after recommendation by the instructor) and bring them every time.
Tuition update: A yearly inflation adjustment according to current market prices in the region is applied on June 1st.
Teaching hours after school are limited, therefore, students who consistently pay late, wait for multiple reminders, or reschedule often will need to pay the tuition for 3 months in advance to remain in the school, or their time slot will be immediately offered to a student in the waiting list.
Tuition: It is based on 44 teaching weeks (2 weeks Winter break, 1 week Spring break, 5 weeks Summer break), paid in 11 months instalments. Your tuition fee is prepaid at the start of lessons and then before each month to reserve your weekly slot of the instructor’s time. It is due by the 25th day of each month for the upcoming month. It is not refundable. For current plans, please email playpiano747@gmail.com. Accepted methods of tuition payment: cash, check, Facebook pay, Zelle. Late tuition payment will increase your monthly tuition with $10 for each late payment.
Tuition is monthly and CAN NOT roll over to the next month because of unused/missed lessons.
Returned bank checks: After a bounced check, the bank fee will be added to the balance and ONLY cash payments will be accepted for future payments.
DECEMBER LESSONS: December is a regular teaching month (has 3 regular lessons as part of the 44 lessons offered yearly). Minimum of 2 lessons are required for December. Students who cancel the whole month of December are not guaranteed their prefered day/time slot in January.
SUMMER LESSONS: Two lessons minimum required for the summer. Students who completely skip summer lessons or take time off for more than two months will not be guaranteed their preferred day/time slot and will be required a registration fee upon their return for the fall.
Registration fee: Students who sign up January and February wil not have a sign up fee. After that, new students’ registration fee is $30. It is due at the first lesson. Returning students have no registration fee if they had two or more summer lessons. Otherwise, a registration fee is added to their tuition.
Concert performance fee: $15, to be paid together with the monthly tuition. Participation in the studio concerts is suggested, as it teaches valuable set of skills, but it is not mandatory.
Make-up lessons: I DO NOT offer make-ups due to limited afterschool teaching hours and a full schedule. If you missed/forgot your lesson/something came up/feeling under the weather/have allergy, flu, please let me know ASAP. Continue practicing for the next lesson. Rescheduling is offered ONLY when there is possible time slot during teaching hours, but it is not guaranteed. If I am sick (but not in a hospital) I offer virtual lessons. No refund is issued for refusal to take virtual lessons.
Other activities conflicts: While I would try to accommodate your request, I cannot guarantee rescheduling if there is not available time during business hours.
VIRTUAL LESSONS: These are a good alternative to in-person lessons in times when student or teacher is sick, but otherwise able to do a lesson. Avoidance of these will create a hustle in the schedule for teacher and student, creating extended working hours for the teacher or loss of income. Students who refuse virtual lessons will be given time slots after everyone else is scheduled.
MEDICAL EMERGENCY: Emergency room, or sick time over 2 weeks (or hospitalization) will be rescheduled/adjusted as it fits best for the recovering student’s health and schedule.
HEALTH POLICY: In order to protect all students and families from spreading germs and viral diseases, and interrupting the normal flow of the teaching process, please do not come to lesson when sick. Students infected with COVID/FLU or having a cough, will take their lessons online at their regular lesson time. There is no make up for these lessons if skipped. The teacher reserves the right to move in=person lessons to virtual lessons during flu season or anytime local covid infection cases increase to avoid infection spreads and massive lessons cancelations. Teacher may enforce masks during lessons based on local covid numbers rise. Disinfecting hands before lesson is mandatory.
Traveling away for month or more: you will need to prepay the tuition for the month you will come back to lessons to keep your time slot reserved, otherwise it will be offered to the students on waiting list.
SNOW, STORM DAYS: Due to bad weather conditions and for your safety (dangerous snow or ice storms, tornado), lessons will be offered online for that particular day at your usual lesson time. I will not hold make ups for students who opt out of storm day online lesson.
BEHAVIOR: Students who are not polite and respectful, act unruly, use vulgar language, argue and are not accepting teaching and guidance will be invited to leave the school. Teachers will not tolerate stubborn and disrespectful behavior of any sort. That behavior is to be addressed by different professionals (social workers, psychologists, medical professionals).
Appearance: Students must keep a good body hygiene (showering), wear clean clothes (and no PJs) that are appropriate for office visit (no super low cuts pants, no overly exposing tops). Trimmed nails are better for learning to play the instrument.
Communication: During teaching/business hours by email. I am not responsible for students’ missed lessons due to not checking your email for updates. Students must check email on the day of their lesson for new information, or eventual change of schedule due to sickness, or weather conditions. Parents/teacher communication about children’s progress is brief after the lesson. Parents are advised to listen to the lessons and the given instructions for practice. Active parental involvement promotes faster and better learning.
Pedagogy for special needs students: As a teacher and instructor, I am trained in music education but I have no training in special education (SPED) needs or psychology outside music education. Therefore, I will not be able to meet special education needs. Parents should discuss with me before signing up for lessons.
Discontinuing lessons: Students can stop taking lessons at any time. However, they will need to finish the prepaid month of lessons as returns are not offered.
